BRISTOL CITY | |
The Bristol City Supporters Club in London was formed during the 1975/76 season when Bristol City Football Club won promotion to the then Division One of the Football League after an absence of 65 years. Thirty five + years later and we're still trying to get back to the promised land. After a period of decline in the early 1980s which coincided with the collapse of the Football Club through the divisions, the London Branch went from strength to strength and by the mid 1990s had a membership well in excess of 100, enjoying several cup runs and taking large numbers from the capital to away games. Since then, the fortunes of the Branch have mirrored those of our parent Club, with fits and starts of successs interspersed with the occasional backward step. Over the years we have fielded teams in the APFSCIL Darts, Pool and Football leagues, enjoying moderate success in them all. Our main focus in APFSCIL is now the Football League, where a large squad of mainly active City supporters keeps the Red Bristolian Exiles flame alight in London. We have excellent facilities at the Riverside Lands in Chiswick and our flourishing relationship with our parent Club at Ashton Gate means we are regularly supllied with replica City kit, which we wear proudly. We have enjoyed several overseas tours, most notably to Dublin, Zurich and Rome. We also recently boasted the presence in our line-up of ex-City legend Rob Newman who turned out for us in a Man of the Match display against Blackpool and Scott Murray wore the Famous No.7 shirt for us during an end of season match we played at Ashton Gate. Members of the Branch are regular attendees at away games and you will always find somebody going to the match wherever it is. If you can't get to a game and it's on TV then you will usually find a lively City crowd at the No.1 Sports Bar, City Road, where they don't seem to mind beer being thrown in the air whenever a City goal is scored (Hartlepool and Palace in Play-Offs being two of the most memorable nights viewing). Most of our members live in and around London but we also have a few flung further afield overseas. If yu are interested in getting involved in either playing for our team or as a social member for ttrips, please get in touch.
